HYDROGEN

There are different approaches to generating hydrogen through electrolysis. For securely transporting the generated hydrogen, our pipeline elements have the following characteristics:

• high degree of flexibility, to absorb system movements contingent on temperature
• temperature-resistant up to 600 - 900 °C during high-temperature electrolysis
• high corrosion-resistance e.g. during acid electrolysis processes (PEM electrolysis)
• absolutely pressure-resistant and resistant to diffusion (4 *10-10 mbar. l/s)
• guaranteed high service life of the pipeline elements used

For both of the most common hydrogen storage processes – in gaseous form with pressures of up to 900 bar and in liquid form at temperatures as low as -253 °C – we have suitable corresponding pipeline elements:

• High-pressure hoses with multiple braiding, tested in accordance with ISO 10380 or ISO 16964 safety requirements
• Traced hose pipelines with vacuum-insulated, detector-monitored annulus for filling and removal from low energy storage
• Customer-specific curved low and high-pressure pipelines

There are various ways of transporting and distributing hydrogen from the existing long-distance pipe network with pipelines through tanker trucks and special hydrogen tankers (e.g. Suiso Frontier, Kawasaki Heavy Industries).
In this area, our product portfolio includes:

• Vacuum-insulated pipeline elements for low-temperature applications (as low as -253 °C)
• Heat-insulated expansion joints e.g. for pipelines
• High-pressure hoses and expansion joints
• Valve shaft bellows for high pressure and vacuum

Hydrogen offers the possibility of decarbonising energy-intensive industrial processes such as steel manufacture or of generating power decentrally in remote locations. In this context, our flexible and rigid pipeline elements ensure a high degree of safety and process reliability. They are used wherever absolute leak-tightness is required in the context of high pressures or low temperatures, for example:

• Supply pipelines (expansion joints)
• Production lines as media pipeline (vacuum hoses)
• Fittings (valve shaft bellows)

In the mobility sector, use of hydrogen as an energy source can decisively reduce CO2 emissions and thus make an important contribution to achieving climate-related political goals. In fuel cells or hydrogen engines, it is used especially where decarbonisation is difficult, e.g. in trains, ships, vehicles, buses or heavy goods transport. Our pipeline elements which are absolutely resistant to diffusion are used here, for example

• Supply pipes direct to the engine
• Connection lines between individual stacks
• Flexible and rigid transfer lines from tank to fuel cell
• Bellows elements for H2 injection
• Pipe systems in large engines
